Lean Manufacturing

What is “lean manufacturing”?
  • A business philosophy that continuously shortens the time between customer order and shipment by eliminating everything that increases the cost and time.

It can address these production issues:

  • Large batches
  • Excessive inventory
  • Long lead times
  • Excessive work in progress
  • Disorganized shop floor with no space
  • High costs
  • Low percent of on time deliveries
  • Difficulty in meeting customer needs
  • Company prices are not competitive, with sell price too high

Example of Light-Duty Work Cell

This light-duty lean manufacturing station features configurable conveyors that allow you to easily move product form workstation to workstation and create work cells for multiple part families. Our workstations can be set up to match your process and organized to increase throughput and reduce worker fatigue and injuries.

Example of Heavy-Duty Work Cell

Reduce the handling time needed to unload and organize incoming raw materials when you utilize this heavy-duty lean manufacturing layout. Choose roller storage racks with shelves that can be loaded and unloaded directly from overhead and then rolled back out of the way of the operator. Loading directly from overhead reduces the possibility of injury commonly seen with standard racks. In this layout you'll also find slings, a stand-alone bridge crane, lifting beams, hoists, gravity roller conveyors, and carts - all available from C&H.

“U” Shaped work cells prove beneficial when cellular manufacturing involves operations with similar cycle times and processes. Benefits of “U” shaped work cells include:

  • Improves communication between operators.
  • Enables operators to flex to balance work time.
  • Reduces handling distance.
  • Reduces floor space required for process.
  • Enables reduction in “work in process” (WIP).
